Title: I Stand Corrected

You’ve been checking on my facts
And I admit I have been lax
In double-screening what I say
It wasn’t funny anyway

I stand corrected

No one cares when you are wrong
But I’ve been at this far too long
To act like that when we should be
In perfect harmony

I stand corrected

Lord knows I haven’t tried
I’ll take my stand
One last time

Forget the protocol
I’ll take your hand
Right in mine

A Title Needed

October 29th, 2009

recovered from facebook’s notes – A title needed

Yes, I need a title. Just give me a topic and then I hope I can blog. Nope. My mind is too cluttered with stuff that is irrelevant. Being said that, my mind is moving faster than I can imagine. That because just now at the Nirvana there I had an idea what to blog about. I was pretty inspired until I came home. Suddenly all gone… i couldn’t even able to construct a sentence not to say a word.

Anyway if you were to ask me, I really have no idea for the upcoming company trip. I have ranted and mostly everyone would have guessed that the company trip is equivalent to team building. He said that I sounded so pissed off by it. Am I? I am not sure myself tho’ but what I did tell him is that I will just dress up for the Halloween theme just for the sake of not getting punishment or penalty for not fulfilling the theme of the night.

If it is team building event, then why it has to be good food and nice bed. It suppose to be suffering. Yes, only by going through the adversity the team will bonded together. I always believe in that people often realized the good things when they are in bad situation. Just like how each and everyone of us feels connected when we rant about our boss. This is so double standard.

Speaking of which double standard that the fact is confirming to my logic and reason for 1Malaysia is not communist country. Only those whom believe in Communism will think everything as singular, one, satu, 一 and numero uno. Therefore this can be proven through that we still having this so-called Bumi rights, ketuanan Melayu and university entry quota. And luckily we keep that aroundtill despite the fact we have been independent for 52 years – this shows that the country was able to sustain what we had back then. Never changed? You tell me…

Just when change is constant, it is a good thing to know and learn how to deal with it when the change comes. That also means being adaptable in order to survive in this harsh society. My cousin sister whom attended the funeral/prayer service told me that she was also doing extra for her income. She told me that if I am keen, I can help her to sell AA-Grade of designer labels like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. “Malas” (Lazy) I replied to her.

Felt like sleeping now. Good night

Going to Langkawi – What’s for Dinner?

October 27th, 2009

As the sun begin to set, I was pretty much starving and can’t wait to go for my dinner. Before I set my journey with Yatz, I made a few calls to my friends seeking information on the food in Langkawi. Never set my foot there, I called Alex for guidance since he often eat-in or eat-out. Moreover he did went to Langkawi recently. To my dismay, he just says, seafood. Langkawi is practically covered by sea so if not seafood what else?

Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant during the day time

Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant during the day time

Another call to dSaintx and a few more turns out to be the same. Seafood. Uh huh. This wasn’t really good news you know. This turns out to be totally different when both of us stumbled upon the Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant. From the signage on the roadside, it wasn’t really much appealing compared to the rest of the outlets along the stretch of the Cenang Beach. It wasn’t much decorated and looks dodgy from its outlook.

Night scene of Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant

My first impression was whether the restaurant is operated or is it a “black shop”. That all started to change when the food was served. So never judge a book by its cover. We grab a table and sat down. The quiet ambience, with no sight of waiter or waitress until the owner, Mr. Chong reassure us that he will serves us later. His staff were on a break to renew the passport. Hence, left Mr. Chong and Fat Mum operating the restaurant. We were surprised by knowing the fact there were only 2 person to manage the operation especially during peak hour like dinner time.

Beer n Stout

Beer n Stout

We ordered the cheapest drink in town – the beer. I had a Carlsberg while Yat take upon Arthur – Guinness Stout. We waited for quite a while before Mr. Chong returned to take our orders. That was good because we actually have time to discuss what to order. It allows us to make decision. We begin with the compulsory “Noodle on Fire” medium size. Basically what Noodle on Fire was noodle wrapped in the aluminum foil before the fire. Hence, it look exactly like the picture below.

Noodle on Fire

Yatz ordered a plate of prawns and seriously, I like it very much. It is called “Fat Mum Special Steamed Prawn”. Usually I do not fancy ordering the prawn-based dishes at restaurant due to the freshness and the way its being prepared. However, for this case it was totally different. The first taste makes me mouthwatering and now blogging about it makes me craved for it again.

Fat Mum's Special Steamed Prawns

Then came the Special Fish Curry and Spicy Garlic Squid. All these dishes were served with 2-3 minutes interval. I was surprised that the dishes were served pretty fast after we waited for quite some time. Later we found out that Fat Mum was manning 3 stoves at the same time. Cool.

There is actually nothing fancy about the food according to Mr. Chong. It is just like home cooked food and nothing to shout about. No specialty. Just ordinary meal that people ordered for lunch and dinner. After we done with the damages to our diet, we had the opportunity to strike a conversation with Mr. Chong. We were in luck because by then the crowd had disperse. Found out that Mr. Chong was once a fisherman and gave that up to operate a restaurant for the past 13 years.

Fat Mum was helping out cleaning the floor when Mr. Chong was talking to us. We chat up with Fat Mum and from there I found out that she was the one any only (cliche’) manning the kitchen below. From the preparation to cooking and then dish cleaning, Fat Mum was one leg kicking. We found out that she had a huge fan base especially from the foreigners whom enjoying their vacation in Langkawi. She even told us that she had list of blogs mentioning the Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant and even featured in LonelyPlanet.

Fat Mum's Stoves

Fat Mum was a very friendly person and even allowed us to go into her kitchen. It was pretty neat despite the aftermath of the cooking. She told us that one of her must-eat dishes include the handmade tofu which is limited in quantity. So if you are still lucky, the tofu will still be available by dinner time since she only made 3 sets per week.

We got a free dessert from Fat Mum – the jelly cendol with gula melaka as base. Sweet. Yummy. She told us that it wasn’t for sale as she made it for her own savoring.

An article from The Mail on Sunday paper many years back by Harry Thompson featured Fat Mum in it. Wow…. that was pretty long ago and she kept the newspaper cutting until today. On the side note, I felt I was the frog beneath the well because we really had a gem here in Langkawi and yet, no one seems to know about it. Here’s what Harry Thompson says, “…the remarkable Fat Mum’s, a contender for the title of best seafood restaurant in the world

what being generosity

October 25th, 2009

As I grew up listening to Malay songs from artist like 4u2c, Ella and those “dangdut” style like Pisau Cukur and etc, I had a limited exposure on the Chinese songs nor English songs until when I begin to listen to Michael Jackson’s You Are Not Alone. Thanks to my mom who brought back the Thriller Music Video for me to watch.

Jeff Chang - Generosity

Jeff Chang - Generosity

Then when I got into my high school, I got myself a auto-reverse playback Walkman cassette player from Sony. I look around for the album to listen to. Then I bought Jacky Cheung’s “我等到花儿也谢了“ for my sister while I still looking for some Chinese songs to listen to. That’s when I begin to search for my sister’s collection and stumbled upon Jeff Chang’s Generosity (寬容). My sister actually took it of from my brother’s car back then.

Being a person whom is English educated and does not know how to read the Chinese, there was some English quote from the album itself. It stated that “Love Is Generosity”.

“True Love Does Not Mean Possion or Jealousy.”

“to love and to be loved are both blessedness. When you’re in love, remember to show more generosity to each other”

In response to that giving up, I can only say that it is not whether giving up or not. It is just the matter of time when we know that possession does not simply mean love. It should means knowing when to let go.

Yes, we might try and do all our means to sustain it but when it is time to let it go then we should let it go. We can rant or curse about the hurtful love that we are going through but in the end, we should let it go. It is hard to do. More easily said than being done.

After all, like I told the friend that she in the end will survive. Just live the life you always wanted. The right man will come.

Living in this world just allows us to experience the life, old, sick and death cycle. Experiencing the pain, emotional ride of our life. At least I can tell people I’ve signed the guestbook. Or collected the stamps at that particular stage of life.

not into you

October 25th, 2009

An idle mind is the devil workshop. But a working mind make Dale the sleepless nights.

With just having a simple conversation, it was an impetus for my trail of thoughts to take its own course. This is especially when it was all about relationship. I am referring specifically about the man/woman kind of relationship.

“Niabeh, already married still want to go out and fooling around. Especially when the husband is not around. Further to that, she just signed the marriage certification 2 months ago”

“Wait you hear mine. He said that I wasn’t soft spoken enough. That’s why he dumped me. It doesn’t make sense”

“What the hell, she agreed to marry him after 2 months of dating whilst we have been through the breakups n times” (insert any number for n)

“Damn it, I waited for her for 6 and 1/2 years. There goes my life. FML!!!”

Some rants I heard throughout the journey. Makes me thought about the overrated relationship, and why people tend to suck up about all this. Is it because since we were young that we have been brainwashed by all those fairy tales? The happily ever after kind of movies?

I should just quote and tell them “He or She is not into YOU”

the lovely red

October 25th, 2009

It happened many years back. I could still remember how the affair started just as it was happened yesterday. Although the affair lasted for several years, it has somehow affected me, becoming a part of who i am today. It was the eye opening in my life.

Back then in the afternoon, I would be walking out from my house when my dad decided to go for his afternoon nap when I do not have any tuition classes or later of the years, it was the Starcraft where I spent quite a number of hours in the cybercafe. If there is an exam for the world domination, I guess I earned enough training hours from the Starcraft battle among my peers.

On the one fine day, my best friend shared his part and somehow the itch got the best of me. I bought myself the material and browsing through when I decided that she was the one. I wrote to her and there it begins. From one to two. Slowly, i gathered enough that I was totally addicted to it. Everyday yearn for more. This leads to the daily routine that was unbreakable for days to come.

Almost every day, I will be religiously going to that place in the noon full of desire and anticipation. I walked for 10-15 minutes from my house just to see the one in red. It was the pleasure of my life. I was glad that it was my pastime. I even asked my dad if he needs me to get anything from the sundry shop. I use the excuse as a context to drop by to the red one for a quickie. She was all the time there waiting for me. Without fail.

The affairs slowly spread out among the few of us. Some begin to catch up. I decided that I should opt for option as the daily routine to that place seems to be rigid. I knew that I could try out at other place. Later that year, the affair no longer restricted to one place but several area along the way. Sometimes I even would try out the one near the tuition area. Sometimes it is within the shopping complexes vicinity.

When one progressed, things ended abruptly. I remember the day that I shifted, it break my habit and my affairs seem to get to the stale. It just lies there and soon, apart from it just ended. It takes two to tango. If the other side decline to progress, I guess it seems to be like that is the end of it. It should be no string attached after all.

After more than 10 years absent from the affair, I would reminiscence those special moments we shared together. Just like the time when I slipped my fingers inside the red. Feeling the humidity and the tightness between the gaps were overwhelming. Now looking back at it, it seems they have been neglected by the current of life. No one care about them anymore. Somehow it seems that the technology was the culprit for making them less attractive.

Now, that seems to be a past tense. No more contains the promise of blissfulness nor the excitement of it. It just being there and you will be only wondering if they are being used by the common. Irregardless of what the future holds, you will still remains my lovely red.

Going to Langkawi

October 18th, 2009

Langkawi Island is located at the northwestern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Being the Jewel of Kedah, it is an archipelago of 99 islands and famous for being a duty-free island. Note that Malaysia is the country whereby implying the heavy sin taxes. Thus, being able to go to Langkawi will means cheaper booze and freaking cheap cigarettes.

Welcome Sign at the Langkawi International Airport

Welcome Sign at the Langkawi International Airport

Known as one of the tourism spot, Yatz and I were on our journey (or yat and only journey…) to Langkawi last week. Being my first time to Langkawi Island, there were plentiful of tourism spots for me to feast on. With Yatz previous experience of taking the bus which leads to winding road and long hours, we decided to Get the Deal from the national carrier – Malaysia Airlines. It is as low as RM69 one way. You need to sign up with for the updates from the Get-the-Deal packages. Tempting to go to K.Kinabalu or Tawau now. More seafood!!!!

Anyway, back to our trip that the two of us we giving our first time together. For me, it was my first time to Langkawi despite being a Malaysian whom never visited Langkawi for its cheap booze. Not even during my teen years. As for Yatz, it was his first time flying. Never been on a plane, I find myself as doing a documentary shooting for Yatz in our 3 Day 2 Night stay. *mental note to Yatz: you should give me chocolates that you bought from there… mana itu Ferrero Rocher?*

All About Yatz

All About Yatz

I took a cab from Gombak on the Friday morning to KL Sentral which cost me RM11.30. Not bad except the heavy traffic at the Jalan Tun Razak intersection near to the Flat Pekeliling. The taxi driver and I talked a lot which reminds me of the short film from 15Malaysia. Yatz was there when I reached KL Sentral. I almost couldn’t recognize Yatz with his new look. I was searching for a young tall white male with a long hair. Silly me.

Yatz in ERL

Yatz in ERL

First, we try to get the ERL ticket first followed by checking in. Realized that if we were to check in our luggage in KL Sentral, it has to be 2 hours before the flight. I told Yatz the night before whether he wanted to check in online or only when we were at KL Sentral. We choose the latter one. We took the ERL which was only 28 minutes trip and arrived in KLIA sooner that we estimated. The ticket only cost us RM35 each. Not bad for a 28 minutes ride.

Flight MH1446

Flight MH1446

We boarded the flight MH1446 – a Boeing 737-400 which can caters up to 144 seating with the wing spanning 28.90m. The maximum fuel capacity is 6200 US Gallons and can reach the cruising speed of Mach 0.74. That’s 797 km/h. MAS have about 37 unit of this aircraft.

Ferrying the disabled and elderly

Ferrying the disabled and elderly

Inside the flight, seated at the seat number 23E I told Yatz I wanted to pick the seat next to the aisle so I can meet up with Anges Soh again and snap some pictures of her sweet smile snap some photo of the cabin crew when they doing the demonstration how to put on the life jacket when emergency happens. With the spacing between the front and back seat, I was able to move around adjusting my position to shoot the cabin crew.

Spacious seat in MAS

Spacious seat in MAS

Contrary from what I imagine how long the flight might take based on my previous flight (back in 10 years old then) which took more than 30 min from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur, we were doing touchdown around 2pm-ish. That was pretty fast and I was expecting they served muffins (like back in 15 years ago). Well, cannot complain about the meal when the flight ticket is now lower and affordable compared to last time. If were to compare to other airlines, this one comes free.

Free Kacang and Drink

Free Kacang and Drink

Since it was my first time being in Langkawi, I leave the planning to Yatz. First of all, we get a car. This is to enable the ease of moving from 1 place to another – since we will be running around the island. So, we approached or being approached by the car rental provider within the airport itself. Either way, I could not hinder myself from getting from this company. Yes, the sales girl was practically showing off her cleavage. Non-intentional because it only happens when she leaned forward to explain the cars available and the accommodation available in Pantai Cenang.

In the midst of the discussion, we opted for the brand new Proton Saga which was a couple month old compared to year old Sentra. The difference was only RM60 per day. Well, like they say.. “belilah barangan buatan Malaysia”. With the transportation settled, time to hunt for the accommodation. According to Yatz, the best place to stay is along the Cenang Beach. They have endless fine sandy beach that is stretch long. By the way, it is a happening place too.

Mali Perdana Resort

We rented a room at Mali Perdana Resort. Our room was just right next to the beach. I could hear the waves from the sea hitting to the shores. In fact, on the second night there were some guys there were doing film shooting. It was a decent room with reasonable price tag on it. It comes with aircon, water heater, tv and wifi. *note : Langkawi got 3G Maxis coverage, don’t play play.*

Scene from Awana Porto Malai

By the time we settled both the car and the place to stay, it was around 5pm. Haste not, Yatz and I headed to Awana Porto Malai to take some photos. Time for me to try out Chua’s Sigma wide angle. It was a quiet place. Peaceful and calm. The majestic of the building give me the feeling of exquisite. Wonder how does the room interior looks like. Meantime, I was getting busy myself trying to catch some angle and a couple of nice shots.

Soon, the day is getting dark and it seems like the sun is settling down. We headed to Cenang Beach to take some sunset shots. The Lighthouse Restaurant at the end of Cenang Beach claimed that it has the best sunset view. Most of the patrons are the foreigners that visiting Langkawi Island. I couldn’t resist but to take some photos of it.

When we were on the move, Yatz notice the signboard “Fat Mum Seafood Restaurant” which he told me that this place must come and eat. It was recommended by his friend for Fat Mum’s famous “Noodle on Fire”. Little that we know that the Fat Mum famous not just for her specialty noodle on fire but her tofu, homemade noodles and more.

Goodbye September

Goodbye September

With due respect, I wonder how many drafts I left it inside every time I drafted it ended up as draft or deleted in the end of the day. Partly I am not satisfied with my work or the post is too packed that like dSaintx says about me trying to tell 3 things in 1 sentence which totally couldn’t even jive together. I could only reply him, “Yeah I am a concise writer”

Nonetheless, it was a quite a hectic fortnight for me. From attending a friend wedding in Malacca to covering a friend’s wedding a week ago, things seem to be tight in between. Another thing I could admit is that I was kind of the procrastinator among all these. Might as well just to throw my mind out here in this huge cyberspace and let it rot.

With too many thing clutter my mind, I need to rant these few things out while let the work manages it own. I hope that should be doing fine. It is just a hiccups. Just a hiccups, I am telling myself. Screw that 2.7 project.

Every time I wanted to do a decent post, I ended up losing it. Lost the trace of it. Probably because of the distraction online or I just need to compose?

Whatever that is, let it end here.. let it end. Let bygone be bygone. And I need to think straight… yeah baby.
