America’s Worst Mom : Agree or Disagree?
I read the article as below, about the parenting reminds me that kids nowadays are under shelter a lot. Not that the parents want to but rather because of the social environment.
As they say, it is no longer safe out there. There will be child trading, kidnappers and even “paedo bear” that lurking on the streets. Who is humane enough to leave their kids alone on the street without a proper supervision?
A year ago, journalist Lenore Skenazy caused a media sensation when she let her 9-year-old ride New York City’s subway by himself. In a new book, she explains why she has no regrets.
About a year ago, I let my 9-year-old ride the New York subway alone for the first time. I didn’t do it because I was brave or reckless or seeking a book contract. I did it because I know my son the way you know your kids. I knew he was ready, so I let him go. Then I wrote a column about it for The New York Sun. Big deal, right?
Yet, on the other hand the kids grew up under the shelter. They can be smart and good academically. Will they be smart enough to survive on the street?
The more polite said things like, “Well that’s fine, and I’ll let my son do that, too … when he’s in college.”
We need to teach the kids when they are young. Just like the saying goes
merentung buluh biar dari rebungnya
translation : to bend a bamboo, while it’s still a shoot It is a Malay proverb and it means if you want to teach your child, it is better to do when he is still young.
