It was in year 2004 I heard of Kevin Mitnick, the hacker that able to hack into anywhere given only a phone. He was highly recommended by Azlan when I worked in eB Technologies. Few years later, a friend of mine borrowed me this and the other, The Art of Deception.

If you try to make your systems foolproof, there is always one more fool who is more inventive than you.
- The Art of Intrusion, p. 143

Given that you are aware of his skillful human engineering in hacking, together with a basic knowledge of IT will helps you to understand the basis of hacking/intrusion. Reading his work, I find it tempting to try out the tendency of human to ignore the basis form of protection in their network.

Likewise, it is hard to find real examples of hacking until I been taught by a friend. Just an introductory class to hack, he actually taught me how to exploit a vulnerabilities using Perl on a very old mail server which was last patched in 2005. We did it in year 2008.

These accounts counted by Kevin in his book enlightened us from a simple hacking to reverse engineering. While all these might think you will learn about hacking from this book which will lead you to disappointment. There isn’t much being taught in this book but it sort of allow you to understand the mindset of the hackers.

And if you like this book after reading it, you might want to peruse the Art of Deception. His very first book.
