Battle of IPTV

When Telekom Malaysia launched their Hypp.TV along with the TM Unifi, I believe that Astro felt threaten. Astro although the dominated the market share, they felt threaten with the IPTV technology. It is rather a good move to tie up with TIME broadband.

Even the channel offered by Hypp.TV is rather limited but they have much better advantage when it comes to Video On Demand, Playback features and even won’t be affected by the rain. Tying up with TIME Broadband, the Astro will be able to provide what Hypp.TV providing. Secondly, instead of launching new satellite to cater for the demand of C-band or A-band which will shoot up the investment cost, why not leave it to TIME? TIME on the other hand can provide Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH); with that TIME can also increase their install base.

It is rather a win-win situation to put the Telekom Malaysia (TM) from monopolizing the market through the HyPP.TV and UNIFI. With IPTV offered with the Astro TIME tie up, Astro practically solved the
a) Latency issue limitation (via Satellite)
b) Interference from the rain/cloud
c) The capability to provide Video On Demand through a click on the remote (instead of AStro on Demand)
d) Eliminating the cost to send a satellite up to the sky.

Location wise.. ehmm

After I read Joshua’s post, I realized that the cost for IPTV is rather high if you do not have existing Astro. Sort of add on as the broadband is a separate cost.

Thinking about the comparison between Hypp.TV verson Astro IPTV.
