Book of Eli
After the absence from the cinema scene since last year, I finally manage to catch a show in Mid Valley last week. It was the movie “the Book of Eli” after all the commotion was all about from my twitterspace. So I got myself a popcorn seat right at the center of the screen, comfortably watching the show to the end.
Throughout the film 1 hour and 58 minutes, I got to admit that there were times it seems so anti climax. From the beginning of the film, we would already have guessed it was the world after the apocalypse. The world that we know as abundance become scarcity. Everything was lacking from the necessity like waters, food and even a warm bed.
Spoiler ahead
As the story unfold or pretty much predictable exception of the book, I realized it was the religion book the people talking about (in the movie). The people after (30 winters) which I assume 30 years or more, are no longer capable of reading. Instead, they have no idea about words. Moreover, they were hungry for words – Words of God. What I believe was that the Bible in this film actually tells us that either we might ended up the same way if everyone is fighting for religion. Hence the word religion is just an act of faith. Doesn’t matter right or wrong but as long as we have faith in our God (irregardless of who), the important is to have the existence of tolerance among each others.
Inside the film, it was through religion that caused the apocalypse and it will be through religion that faith will be restored.
The character Eli played by Denzel Washington does not sway from the duty he had been assigned or so called entrusted with. So he begins his journey from east to west. Seriously, it has more sublimate message which I tend to pick up from the film – the religiously attempting film. It reminds you that you seldom see people say grace. Not even in today’s world.
How much have we lost. How more can we lose.
In the end, the good triumph over evil. Maybe what next? the Book of Solara?
