Buying Washing Machine
After moving in, it took me a while to get a washing machine. Thinking about the price tag, functions and even features some times can be tedious. With today’s information widely available, it is still hard to screen through the information. Sometimes, it caused information overloaded. My experience was when shopping for a good mattress and a television set.
My mom insisted that I get a front load washing machine instead of the top load. At first, I wonder why she wanted me to get a rather slight expensive front load compared to the top load which is much cheaper. Hence, I googled it for some answer. Found out that there’s huge distinction between these two types. Here’s what I found out:-
Top Load
- Uses much water as it needs to fill the entire drum to get the clothes soaked.
- You don’t need to bend or kneel to get the clothes in/out.
- You can use any kind of detergent.
- Can put in last minute clothes
Front Load
- Use less water
- Only uses HE low-sud
- Uses gravitational pull clean the clothes, hence less harm to clothes
- Can achieve higher RPM hence drier clothes
- Can stack up with dryer for space efficiency
- It’s energy efficient (go green)
The disadvantage I found out when using a front load compared to top load is that you need to take care of the clothes immediately rather than leave it overnight inside the machine. The humidity that builds up will spoil the rubber. You need to leave the hatch open so it can air dry, protecting the rubber.
There’s no need to care about the water retention inside the top load washing machine as it tends to flush down while the front load have a tendency to retain water after wash.

So far, I trusted Electrolux. Give them the benefit of doubt even after the poor service by their authorized service center.
