The stillness of nights the whole week has nothing in relating to the yearly event we, the Malaysian Chinese are celebrating. With the ban of the firecrackers and stuff, it just make the forbidden even more lovelier.
By now, a week passed by. Nothing seems to change the fact it is just a prolonged holiday non other than pure gambling gaming sessions among the family members and friends. The dying city no longer deserted like the good old days. Yes, it is still breathing life on the first Chinese New Year. Many folks of the city has made KL their hometown. I know I had. It has been all these while. My father never keen on going back either.
By tomorrow night, there will be thundering sounds of the firecrackers breaking the silent of the night. The Hokkiens will be putting up the firecrackers. It has been since the tradition. All along with the sugar cane, which the legend told that saved the entire clan. Hence, at least to my own personal delight that is the ideal atmosphere of Chinese New Year.
The smell of burning crackers, the smoky dark sky and the ground bathed in red. This sight can hardly be found in the city anymore. When we advanced, we have to make way for the new things. Old culture, old practices going to make way.
