Mistreatment or Slave
I was reading a news article from theStar. It states that the Malaysia has lost its lustre for the Indonesian maids to be coming over to work.
Somehow the following statement as below sounds far from the reality. Minority? Minority that has been reported. Most of them goes unreported. When it define the mistreatment, perhaps it refers to the physical torture and tormenting. Rather the emotional pains has been omitted.
“Another major reason is the negative impression many Indonesians have of employers in Malaysia,” he said.
The embassy spokesman said although only a minority of Malaysian employers mistreated their maids, this had created a negative image among its workers.
“Malaysians must realise that times have changed. Those who have worked here do communicate to the others back home about their experience in the country,” he said.
Then apart of blaming the maid’s employer, do we send them for checkups? These are psychological abuse. These employers having issues somewhere and hence projected at the maids. Power imbalance at work perhaps?
