Robin Hood 2010
Finally I catch the film alone by myself at the Wangsa Walk Mall. When he starred in Gladiator, he set the benchmark in these historical epic films such as these. To me, he played well the characters in previous few films. So I have huge expectation from him in this film.
The Oscar winner, Russell Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as “Robin Hood,”. A man who famous for robbing off the riches and help the poor. His story and with his merry men was very popular mythology and share his spirit of righteousness.
The story told the beginning of the legend where in the 13th century England, Robin and his band of merry men confront the corruption in a local village, Nottingham and lead an uprising against the King John that will forever alter the balance of power. In between being a thief and hero, Robin Longstride was declared outlaws.
In this film, Robin Hood was interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richard’s army against the French. Upon King Richard’s death, he travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, to repay the grace that left them safe return to England. Here he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion played by Cate Blanchett.
Ridley Scott has this amazing aspect of the film but in the end, i felt something is missing. It was a great 2 hours plus film. Just that when I looked up the story, it is not consistent with certain part. Yes, historic facts but some are just legend. Nonetheless, it tried very hard to create the action-adventure. Not epic enough. I would say.
My ratings? 7/10
