the monk and the apostle (2)
chapter: the apostle
The other day, Leroy called me up for a dinner session with him since he was on his way home. I told him that I was around Cheras and I could meet up with him for a dinner session, even though I had took my dinner earlier. At the A&W Leisure Mall was our rendezvous place. He ordered a set of value meal while I brought along a McDonald’s Banana Pie despite of the rule “no pets and outside food allowed”
By the time I finished the pie, Leroy’s meal had yet being served. As he finished the last bite of the burger, I told him that I have the caffeine withdrawal syndrome and I needed coffee. He agreed to join me for a cup of coffee at the Starbucks next door.
Somehow out of nowhere, the story begins. He threw me a question. “Are you ok?” Which of course I replied, “Suppose so” ”Busy with work or stressful?” he added. I answered and the session continues for few more asking and answering until I decide to throw him a question back. I told him, “Bro, let say that given you are lost in the midst of the sea. You been given five things that you can have it with you. What are these five things that you want to have with you?”
Before him willing to give me the answer, he said “You are going to blog it, aren’t you?” All I knew was I gave him a smirk, just a smirk on my face. He then answered “First, it has going to be my Bible. Then a map, a compass, rations and finally someone who can bring me back to the land– maybe a sailor” I jotted it down. It is actually the metaphor I wanted to use to answer you back later.
The reason for me throwing him that question because in life, it is just like a journey in the vast ocean. At times, we might get lost. The compass might not work properly or even the map might be blurring at certain portion. Relying on the one thing cannot help you go through these tough times. The stormy weather and the angst sea might swallow the whole small ship like mine.
I told him that he is sort of my compass. Knowing him for so long, at times when I have this doubt and after talking to him, he will point me back to the North. The right direction I knew all these while I need to be heading to. Whatever we are doing right now, it is just like a quest. Sometimes, you need to change map. You do not need a direction map to help to find the treasure chest. If you are looking for the treasure chest, you will need a treasure map. Not a direction map. For the past twenty over years, I knew that I am blessed with the right mentors throughout and they are like the sailor in this case – Leroy’s metaphor. They knew exactly where to go and these people have guided me well. Here I would like to thank them, for you will know who you are.
So where is the apostle? We just got to find it somewhere in the middle of the ocean. All you need to do is just to start to find it. When you really look for it, it will appear before your very eyes.
