the monk and the apostle

chapter: the monk

As I shared with Wilson the other day, that I recently so keen into some interesting hobbies such as being an audiophile. I explained to him that my intention to involved in the sound thingy like setting up the pirate radio station, installing software to do DJ – such as the Cakewalk and related software. It just feels that way.

I might as well get an audio mixer so I can hook up with some instruments. That I can produce my list of songs to be broadcast over the pirate radio once the radio unit has been completed. I told him that I could be famous for this.

Wilson listened to me intensely and attentively as we cruise down the road to SoHo KL. I added that maybe this is it. This is my life and it is for me. He then shared a story of a guy he knew. He told me that he had this friend, whom into drugs and almost daily this guy will drop by his shop to tell him things that he will be doing. The guy said that one day, one fine day that he will do this and do that. Wilson was trying to relate me with that guy so that I would not choose to be in the guy shoe. Just with all the talking but no action.

With the explanation given, he just told me bluntly. That what I am doing is just another form of monk. In comparison with the monk whom just citing prayers in the temple everyday to the Buddha, what I am doing is just the same. Except that I am no longer reciting prayers to the Buddha but focusing on the span of attention towards the sounds.

It was in his state of mind that I wanted to be a monk of sound. Of that I have no more interest in the affairs of the world but rather just to deal with the audio thing for the rest of my life. Then I have to made known to him that that is not my intention actually but in fact, I just thought I should pursue my interest without forsaken my role and responsibility as a son, citizen and what so ever I should be committed to.

For the rest of the journey to SoHo KL, we talked some other things and leaving the monk with his audiophile behind.
